While Zara Larsson has topped our playlists since 2015, the pop princess is getting candid about the artists who won’t get any streams from her.
The Grammy nominee hit up Cosmopolitan HQ for a game of truth or drink on Cheap Shots on February 24, and she didn’t hold back. As she sipped on mixed shots inspired by songs like “Lush Life” and “Midnight Sun,” Zara revealed one of the many artists she’s personally blocked on Spotify.
“Name one artist we would never find on a playlist of yours,” she read off the prompt card, to which she responded, “There’s so many artists I have blocked on Spotify, and all of them are, like, abusers.”
She clarified further, adding, “You certainly wouldn’t find a Chris Brown song.” (Dare I say…queen behavior.)
The R&B singer has a long history of controversial behavior throughout his career, dating all the way back to March 2009, when he pleaded guilty to physically assaulting Rihanna, who he was dating at the time. A few years later, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault after an October 2013 altercation in Washington, D.C.
According to People, Chris’ ex-girlfriend, Karrueche Tran, was also granted a five-year restraining order against him in 2017 after they called it quits in 2014.
Side note: This isn’t the first time the “Stateside” singer has used her platform to champion women and call out double standards in the music industry.
When asked whether she ever feels a conflict in being both a pop star and a feminist in the early days of her career, Zara told Flaunt, “I think today it could be an inner conflict of being a girl and being a feminist. I feel like it’s sort of a third wave of feminism. You know, you look at Beyoncé, and she looks so hot, she’s super sexy in that leotard, but then you have Jay Z in a suit next to her, and you’re like, ‘Well why aren’t you in a leotard, Jay Z?’”
She went on to explain a similar sentiment she would sing on her Midnight Sun track, “Hot & Sexy,” a few years later. “You know, it’s just the way that society sexualizes women—but I feel like women are reclaiming the right to be sexual beings, and reclaiming that right because we want to be,” she shared.
Elsewhere during her Cheap Shots episode, Zara also dished a hot take when it comes to people’s listening habits. “If you only listen to one music genre, then I don’t think you’re very smart,” she admitted, before she later guessed which song soundtracked her first TikTok dance video (hint: it’s by Cardi B).
Never change, Zara!!
